The HCM City Young Scientists Association was officially established yesterday with the aim of promoting the works of young and talented scientists and providing them with opportunities to exchange experiences.

The association will work to ensure that the creativity and diligence of scientists can be applied in daily life, according to officials.

The association will foster and raise professional knowledge among young scientists under the guidance of Phan Minh Tan, director of HCM City’s Department of Science and Technology: Professor Nguyen Ngoc Giao, chairman of HCM City Union of Sciences and Technology Associations; and Phan Thanh Binh, director of the National University in HCM City.

The Science and Technology Development Centre said a plan for the third and fourth quarter of this year had already been prepared. Accordingly, the association will launch programmes titled Start with the Young Scientists and Connect the Young Scientists.

The programmes will disseminate information about the association among universities, institutes and science and technology institutions aiming to attract more participation by young scientists.

Vietnamese students and researchers under 40 years of age, who are studying or working abroad are eligible to become association members.

The association will work to raise funds for scientific research by members.

The launching of the association was marked by a seminar to hand over the results of scientific research work done by talented young scientists in the city.

Held for the second time this year, the seminar presented five works. One of them deals with the use of sodium lactate and sodium acetate in processing lean pork paste, another involves making the model of a sysdrive inverter, and yet another classifies and builds a collection of tree species on the hill and mound land ecosystems in Cu Chi District.
