Nhue has been one of the most polluted rivers in Hanoi for years. On many sections of the river, where the water is black and smelly, rau muong (water morning glory) is planted on rafts.

In Huu Hoa, rau muong rafts run kilometers long.

Not far from rau muong rafts is rubbish.

Local residents know about the pollution, but they still try to earn some money from rau muong.

This woman, Do Thi Phu, can sell 50 bundles of rau muong a day, earning around 100,000 dong.

Local people never eat this kind of rau muong.

Rau muong is mainly sold to people in the city’s hub.
