The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has submitted to the government a draft law on the conservation of energy, said the MoIT’s office chief Nguyen Dinh Hiep.

Apart from establishing energy saving service companies, the MoIT will join hands with the World Bank (WB) to set up a fund for energy conservation projects, which may have capital up to several hundred million dollars, Hiep said at a workshop on energy saving at industrial facilities in HCM City on June 24.

Hiep said ideas raised at the workshop will be gathered to submit to the government.

Some attendants said that besides improving people’s awareness of saving energy, it is necessary to apply laws and sanctions to enforce energy saving in Vietnam. China and Japan have instructed big enterprises to save electricity.

At the workshop, some companies talked about difficulties they have faced while carrying out energy saving projects, including difficulties in capital, awareness and technology.
