The Ministry of Trade and Industry and German Technical Cooperation Organization (GTZ) on July 21 signed an agreement on wind power development cooperation worth Eur1 million.

Under this agreement, the German government will provide Vietnam with Eur1 million to design a legal framework for a wind power grid and a wind power development plan.

Germany will also help Vietnam apply sci-tech advancements in developing wind power and provide Vietnam with consulting services for wind-power projects.

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Do Huu Hao said that Vietnam has big potential for wind power, with an output of around 1785 MW per year.

A total of 15 wind power projects have been registered, totalling 1054 MW. However, owing to the lack of policies for wind power, only wind power plants totalling 7.5 MW have been built. These plants are preparing to sell electricity to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) group.
