Hanoian students to make lanterns for climate change conference

Lanterns made by Hanoi’s students will be sent to a lantern parade in Copenhagen to support the campaign against global climate change this December.
Hanoian students are linking up with students across the world to support the campaign against global climate change by making paper-made lanterns as a symbol of their wish to save the planet from global warming.
These lanterns will be sent to the United National Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Denmark this month to call for an agreement among world leaders on goals to curb emission.
In Vietnam, traditional lanterns symbolize luck and immortality. The lanterns made by Hanoi’s kids for the WWF’s lantern campaign will symbolize will reflect luck wished on world leaders as they look for an agreement about global climate change.
Teacher Milena Langer from the Just Kids School, Hanoi, said: “The kids were very enthusiastic and interested in the discussions about the future of our world. It is wonderful to able to send these messages from the children of the world.”
Tran Thi Hien, WWF Vietnam’s director, said: “Children have the right to question and raise strong voices in global actions to prevent climate change and protect the planet for their future”.
The UN Conference on Climate Change will take place on December 7-18 in Copenhagen. WWF is trying to cut down the volume of emissions by at least 80 percent by 2050 to prevent climate change. The lantern campaign is part of the WWF’s Earth Hour program.
