HCM City’s environmental police on December 14 caught workers of the Hiep Phuoc power plant in Nha Be district pouring solid waste and cinders into a hole.

The workers declared that this was the fourth batch of waste they had buried in the morning of December 14. The cinder came from the factorys kiln while other waste from the replacement of insulation materials on the thermo-pipes.

The environmental police discovered other holes containing condensed black oil and cinders, daily waste and oil-related waste weighing around several dozen tonnes at the factory. They also found another dump containing mud and a warehouse full of waste.

The Hiep Phuoc Power Plant is a subsidiary of the Hiep Phuoc Power Company. It has buried toxic waste on its grounds for two years.

Environmental police asked the plant to immediately stop burying waste and keep the scene unchanged for investigation. After the investigation, the plant will have to dig up the entire volume of waste for treatment.
