The first made-in-Vietnam incinerator for treating toxic solid waste has been put in use at hospitals across the country.

The incinerator, made by the Institute of Environment Technology and the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology, has two compartments, the first of which burns the waste at around 800 degrees Celsius.

The smoke from the first compartment, which contains dust and toxic chemicals, will be mixed in the air flow to the second compartment, which burns it at 1,050-1,200 degrees Celsius in about two seconds.

Smoke from the second compartment will flow through a treatment system to get rid of dust, heavy metals and other pollutants.

The VHI-18B oven functions automatically and produces colorless and odorless exhaust fumes that are safe and does not harm the environment, the institutes claim, adding the product has been tested by concerned agencies.

It uses cheaper devices than imported ones but still guarantees safety, the producers say.

The oven is being used at provincial hospitals in Ninh Thuan, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh and Son La Provinces and several district medical centers in Bac Ninh and Kon Tum Provinces.

The National Money Printing Factory in Hanoi is also using the new incinerator.
