Malaysian ship caught discharging waste off Vung Tau

Ba Ria-Vung Tau province border guards have asked the provincial authorities to fine a Malaysian ship that discharging waste from oil drilling rigs into waters near the southern port and resort town.

A maritime patrol several days ago detected the MV Timik Samudra, captained by Zukurnain Binahmao Shaffie, anchored off Vung Tau in the Bai Truoc area. This ship didn’t bother with formalities to enter Vietnamese waters, but it sold eight oil drums of waste to a Vietnamese boat.

Border guards also detected sailors on the Timik Samudra discharging used CMC, a chemical used on oil rigs, directly into the sea. This chemical is not toxic but it pollutes the water.

Captain Shaffie has confessed his wrong action.
