Nearly 100 leading scientists from 25 countries are gathering in Hanoi for a conference entitled “Managing the Risk of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation”.

This is an international conference held by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) held in Hanoi with cooperation from Hanoi National University.

This important meeting will allow leading scientists to discuss urgent issues arising from the impact of climate change and also response measures to reduce risk.

Addressing the function, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan stressed that climate change is a global challenge, and Vietnam is one of the countries in the world that is already suffering the most.

As ASEAN Chair, Vietnam has given the issue top priority on its working agenda and proposed the establishment of an East Asia forum on climate change, he remarked.

Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, Director of Hanoi National University, maintained that climate change has become a common public concern and an indispensable part in every country’s polices. Climate change has become the biggest global challenge that the current and future generations have to face.

They will also prepare for an official IPCC 2010 report, which will serve as a reference for policy makers, investors and donors.
