Phan Toan Thang, a Vietnamese lecturer at the National University of Singapore, has transferred his umbilical cord membrane stem cell technology to companies in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Scientists of Taiwan’s StemCyte study Dr. Thang’s technology in Singapore.

The two leading stem cell banks in Asia – CordLife and StemCyte – have bought Thang’s technology to serve patients in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Stem cell experts note that Thang’s technology to collect stem cells from umbilical cord membranes is very valuable, because it circumvents some problems of current stem cell technology with its easy implementation as well as being medically ethical and not painful.

Before transferring this technology, Thang developed this technology in Vietnam in cooperation with MekoStem Company.

He observed that some stem cell research in Vietnam is ahead of many other Asian countries. He believes that his research group would achieve more successes if supported by the Vietnamese government and experts.
