Provinces want higher investment in science-technology

Departments of Science and Technology have asked the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and provincial governments to raise investment in this field to reach 2 percent of total budget spending.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien pledged to consider the petition to increase budget capital for sci-tech activities in northern mountainous provinces.

Their request was issued at a meeting of MoST with representatives of the Departments of Science and Technology (DoST) of 14 northern provinces on May 7.

According to DoST, they can assist enterprises to modernize their technology and to invest in sci-tech activities if the budget for sci-tech increases to 2 percent of the total budget spending per year.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien pledged to consider the petition to increase budget capital for sci-tech activities in northern mountainous provinces.

He also committed to resolve administrative troubles associated with capital allocation for sci-tech activities. At present, DoST does not manage the capital, but rather People’s Committees.

DoST also complained about financial mechanisms for sci-tech activities, which impede the operation of sci-tech organization, enterprises and scientists. Tien promised to consider and amend some decrees that are counter-productive.
