Quy Nhon Institute for Malaria – Parasite – Entomology has sent a group of scientists to central provinces to collect bug specimens and perform blood tests on people bitten by the “assassin” bugs.
Institute Director Trieu Nguyen Trung noted that the group comprises various experts such as doctors and phlebotomists who are now in Da Nang to collect bugs in order to verify the species.
They will also test the blood of people reported to be bitten by the bugs to define their disease-transmitting ability.
Trung said this group of experts will go on to Thua Thien – Hue city province and some other villages where people have reported the presence of blood-sucking assassin bugs.
The team will report their results to the Ministry of Health to form the basis for Ministry guidelines on disease prevention.
