New Postal Law to take effect in January

The Draft Postal Law, which becomes effective on January 1 next year, will have 10 charpters and 46 articles regulating provision, investment, quality, fees and the rights and responsibilities of service providers.

It will also cover stamps, dispute settlement and compensation, and extent of the State’s responsibility.

The Draft Postal Law is designed to meet growing demand during the country’s socio-economic development.

Officials said the law would overcome the shortcomings of the previous Telecoms Law promulgated in 2002.

The Draft Postal Law was approved by the Government at its monthly meeting in April 2009.

VNPT Ha Noi provides MetroNet service

VNPT Ha Noi has launched its MetroNet service.

The connection charge of VND5 million includes Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).

MetroNet is a high-speed transmission line that can carry 10.000 Mbps.

Metronet subscribers will be able to use data transmission, video, IPTV, video phones, video conferencing, video on demand, cable TV, distance education, remote surveillance, distance medical checking and high-speed gaming access.

MetroNet will help reduce costs as it has low installation and monthly charges, the company said.

VDC focuses on online English learning

VDC has linked up with GK company to provide an online English language programme called “English School.”

The programme is designed for 6th to 12th graders.

The two companies said they hoped the programme, available at www.tienganhhocduong.vn, will become the “In-house English Centre” for pupils, parents and teachers “anytime and anywhere.”

In 2008, VDC launched an online training programme called Mega E-Learning. The company said it now had 20,000 registered users.

VDC also plans to launch a number of other online training courses this year, such as “TOEFL lbt,” “TOEIC,” “online examination,” and “visual class.”

University implements Oracle software

Hoa Sen University has deployed US-based Oracle’s PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions 9.0 to enhance its operational efficiency.

The software is designed to help manage student administration, student records and student progress.

It also organises information resources and makes them available over the Net.

Hoa Sen University is the first organisation in Viet Nam to deploy the student system and alumni-development solution for higher education. The deployment is expected to be completed in 12 months.
