The test will be conducted within a year. After that, these firms will have to participate in the auction of 4G frequencies and then 4G licenses.

According to the Telecommunications Law, they have the right to transfer the licenses after auction.

The Ministry of Defense previously asked the government to license Viettel to implement the 4G network. Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan on September 1 told the MoIC to grant testing licenses and 4G frequencies to Viettel.

In related news, Viettel and VinaPhone have imported nearly 3000 iPhone 3Gs, including 1,700 for Viettel and 1,300 for VinaPhone.

Viettel began selling these products on September 4 and VinaPhone the next Monday, September 13. So far, Viettel has imported 14,700 and VinaPhone 10,000 iPhone 3Gs.

The two firms will launch the iPhone 4G in late September.
