Leptobrachium leucops, a frog species discovered in central Vietnam.

A team of scientists has discovered a new species of anuran  in central Vietnam’s Langbian plateau, VnExpress reported Saturday.

 

Vietnamese and Australian scientists found the first recorded specimens of Leptobrachium leucops, living at an altitude of between 1,558 and 1,900 meters along the border between Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa provinces.

 

The upper portion of the creature’s irises are white, the news site reported. The animal is also distinguished from similar frogs by its small body size and dark belly.

 

In January, an Australian scientist discovered a species of gliding tree frog that bore tadpoles with black fangs in southern Vietnam.

Rhacophorus vampyrus has since been nicknamed the "vampire flying frog.”
