A wildlife organization Wednesday announced that it has found a rare species of frog in its latest biodiversity survey in the central province of Quang Ngai.

 

Theloderma stellatum, also known as Taylor’s Bug-eyed Frog, is named in the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species, according to the Wildlife At Risk (WAR), a non-profit organization based in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

The species is native to Vietnam, Thailand, and possibly Cambodia. It is threatened by the loss of its habitats, which include subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

 

During the two-week trip in Ba To District, WAR also discovered Leptobrachium xanthospilum – another red-listed species of frog, and several other rare species like the gibbon Normascussp, and pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonine).

 

Nearly 60 species of amphibian, 32 species of mammal including 15 species of bat, and 52 species of dragonflies have been recorded in the district, WAR said.
