Vietnam to export up to 100,000 laborers per year

Vietnam will export 80,000-100,000 workers per year in 2011-2015 and those workers will be given support under a project by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA).
Of these workers, 40 percent are poor people or people eligible to benefit from government’s subsidies, the ministry said at the conference held in Da Nang City yesterday to discuss the national employment program for 2011 and the labor export plan for 2011-2015. In the period, the ministry will organize vocational training courses for about 10 million people nationwide to facilitate them in seeking jobs. People to be sent abroad to work in 2011-2015 will be given soft loans, subsidized vocational training, and legal procedure assistance, MOLISA said. Last year the country created 1.6 million jobs and exported 85,000 workers, up 14.8 percent from 2009. The Overseas Labor Management Department, under MOLISA, warned that many companies have illegally exported workers or collected brokerage fee at unacceptably high rates. Of the total 167 labor export businesses, 20 percent has operated ineffectively or failed to meet required standards, the department said. The quality of exported laborers remained low in terms of foreign language skills, compliance of laws of local countries, and health conditions. In addition, 25-30 percent of exported workers gave up their jobs and returned home before their contracts expire. The Middle East will be among 5 main markets for labor export this year, although this area often suffers political and social uncertainty, the ministry said. The four other target markets are Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan, he said. In addition, Libya remains a large market for Vietnamese worker. “If Libya’s political situation is stable again in the coming time, we will continue to send our workers there,” Hoa said.
