Purchasing fruits and cooking on the railway and running away when trains come is the everyday scenes at the railroad passing Co Nhue commune, in Tu Liem district, Hanoi.

There is a mobile market along the railroad in Co Nhue commune, Tu Liem district.

This mobile market is located near the Co Nhue market. Local residents said

that the Co Nhue market is narrow so many traders group up and create the mobile market on the railway.

There is a “No market” sign, but it is ineffective.

Some men sit on the rail, smoke to wait for customers.

Women chat during unoccupied time. There are 4-5 trains passing this railway daily.

Things are placed on the railway. A woman named Huong said: “Hearing the train whistle

from a distance we immediately collect our things and run away from the

railroad. We are very experienced! No problem!”

Whenever a cargo train comes (running at a speed of 60km/hour), traders

push away to the two sides of the rail. Nguyen Duc Tien, a railway guard

who works near the mobile market, said that some fatal accidents

occurred here. Most of victims are customers.

This market has been dismissed several times by the local government, but it still exists.

On March 30, a coach carrying 18 people tried to pass the railway in Thuong Tin district, Hanoi, though the alarm bell rang. The coach was hit by the train. Seven people died immediately and two died on the way to hospital.

On August 6, 2010, a train hit a truck in Duy Tien district, Ha Nam province. Three carriages were upturned. Over 300 passengers on the train were safe but the train driver was injured.

On November 22, 2009, a coach was hit by a train in Thuong Tin district, Hanoi, nine passengers died.
