LookAtVietnam - Authorities of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong are calling for more investment into wind power projects as the province holds huge potential of wind power of up to 22,000MW, a local official said.

The province is making a plan for wind power development, expecting to complete it by this year’s end to call for investors, said Huynh Ngoc Hai, deputy director of the province’s Department of Industry and Trade.

He told the Daily on Monday given the high potential of wind power, the provincial government is asking more investors to come and explore business opportunities in this field. Hai said all the northern districts of the province have very huge potential of wind power.

Unlike the overlapping between wind power, titanium and resort projects in Binh Thuan Province nearby, wind power facilities in Lam Dong Province could be developed within forest areas without having to log down the trees.

According to Hai, the provincial government has just re-issued an investment license for the first wind power project in Lam Dong with a total power generating capacity of 300MW.

The project, which is developed by Cavico Joint Stock Company, is expected to start its installation for the first wind turbines by the end of this year with an initial generating capacity of 30MW. The whole project will likely be operational since 2013.
