On July 3, some US steel and steel pipe producers officially lodged complaints against Vietnam and eight other countries and territories on dumping OCTG prices to the US Department of Commerce (DOC).

The defendants are  the Republic of Korea, India, Turkey, Taiwan (China), Ukraine, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

Leading plaintiffs are the United States Steel Corporation, the Maverick Tube Corporation and the Boomerang Tube company.

Vietnam raised OCTG export volume from 145 tonnes in 2010 to nearly 220,000 tonnes in 2012. The export growth ranked second, after the RoK, among nine exporters to the US.

The country currently has OCTG producers and exporters, mostly joint ventures in the oil  industry. Their products are exported through 14 companies to enter the US market.

Since 2011, the Vietnamese steel sector has faced  four anti-dumping lawsuits. Three previous lawsuits were on carbon welded steel pipes, steel wire garment hangers and welded stainless pressure pipe.
